Choosing a Large Or Small Pack?

The size of a shoe-pack and lash rope will depend on the wearer's chest and ski backpack. A breast strap is usually about 12 inches long and eight inches wide, padded with cotton or felt. Shoulder straps are typically double-thick ten-ounce canvas, 36 by six inches. These straps taper at the yoke end, where a stout rope is attached. The shoulder straps are padded for the first twelve inches.

Size of Lash Rope

A top pack is ideal for hauling "fluff." Its top opening keeps your stuff together, while also letting you easily access it. Some top packs have straps that attach to a pannier, while others have d-rings sewn into them. If you plan to use a top pack, make sure the pannier has a lash rope.

The size of your lashing rope is one of the most important questions to answer when making a lashing. For example, you will need about three feet of rope if you're tying two spars. Add up the diameter of the spars to get the length you'll need.

Size of Yoke

The size of a yoke is a key factor when selecting a pack or a size of backpack. A large yoke is heavier than a small one. This is due to the extra weight and extra padding in a large yoke. To further increase the size of a large yoke, you can add chest support to it, and do chest supported rows.
